England’s number 1 goalkeeper David James has achieved another milestone in his career by breaking the premiership appearance record last weekend when Pompey played Manchester City at Fratton Park.

The 38 years old goalkeeper has been playing at the highest level for 16 consecutive years with 535 appearances overtaking Gary Speed’s record.
Over these 16 years David James has played for Liverpool, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Portsmouth. With 46 England caps he is also Capello’s first choice between the sticks.
I’ll let David James himself have the last words on this post:
“The record means a hell of a lot to me, I am playing in the best domestic league in the world, so if you can play in it for 15 or 16 years, that must say something.”
